(01) — A field tool for Medi Mates

Every product
on the shelf,
read.

01 — Capture
02 — Read
03 — Review

Photograph a medical product from every side. MediShelf reads its label into ten clean fields, and leaves blank anything it can’t see clearly.

Anatomy of a label

01 — Closed

Small box.
Six sides of fine print.

The details that matter on a medical product aren’t on one label. They wrap all the way around the carton, a few millimetres tall.

02 — Unfolded

Laid flat,
it reads like a page.

Open a carton along its folds and the label becomes one sheet: the brand up front, the fine print across the back and down both sides.

03 — Mapped

Ten fields,
all the way round.

Name and size on the front. Barcode, dates, lot and reference on the back. The maker’s details on a side panel most people never turn to.

04 — Missed

Skip a side,
lose a field.

Leave out the left panel and the manufacturer simply isn’t there to read. MediShelf won’t fill it in from memory. It says Not detected.

Ten fields,
straight off the label.

A vision model compares every photo and keeps the clearest evidence. Barcodes keep their leading zeroes. Dates are stored only when nobody could misread them.

Why every field matters

01 — Expiry date

A date,
not a squint.

Stored as a real calendar date, not a photo of one, so nobody has to tilt a box under the light to find it again.

expiresOn: 2028-03-31

202803—31

02 — Lot number

The number
a recall asks for.

When a batch is recalled, the lot is what matters. It’s captured character for character, or left honestly blank.

lot: null // last character smudged

LOT
4A1B–07

03 — Barcode / GTIN

Every digit,
in order.

The product’s global trade item number, kept exactly as printed. Never trimmed, never turned into a number.

barcode: "09345678000126"

09345678000126

Leading zero, kept

04 — Manufacturer

Who made it,
and where.

Maker, address and manufacturing site, read straight off the side panel most people never turn the box to see.

manufacturerSite: "Penang, Malaysia"

Penang,
Malaysia

(06) — Principles

We never guess

If a label can’t be read clearly, MediShelf writes nothing at all. No inference, no autocomplete, no confident nonsense. Just an honest Not detected that a person can check.

Case 01Smudged
LOT 4A1B-07
On the box

stored as

lot: null

shown as

Not detected

Can’t see it? Leave it blank.

A rubbed-out lot number stays empty. No filling in the last digit from memory.

Case 02Ambiguous
MFD 03/04/25
On the box

stored as

manufacturedOn: null

shown as

Not detected

Two readings? Neither.

Is 03/04/25 the 3rd of April or March 4th? If a date could go either way, it isn’t stored.

Case 03Exact
(01)09345678000126
On the box

stored as

barcode: "09345678000126"

shown as

09345678000126

What’s printed is what’s kept.

Barcodes, lots and references keep every character, leading zeroes included. Never reformatted.

(07) — History

Every upload, accounted for.

Each batch lands in your history the moment you tap Done, marked Pending until it’s been read. You’ll get a notification when it’s Reviewed, and you can add or swap photos and send it back for another read.
